Making Every Contact Count – simple signposting to better health and wellbeing

What is Making Every Contact Count (MECC)?

MECC is an approach to behaviour change that supports the delivery of consistent and concise healthy lifestyle information and enables individuals to engage in conversations about their health at scale across organisations and populations.

Our MECC programme

We are currently rolling out a programme of MECC training with NHS Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust (GSTT) and IHL – the GP federation in south Southwark.

The programme includes training across 12 sessions in June for all staff in Southwark including General Practice, GSTT, NHS South London and Maudsley Foundation Trust (SLaM), Southwark Council and the voluntary and community sector.

This training aims to improve:

  • Understanding of making every contact we have with patients and local people count.
  • Identification of opportunities to make effective approaches in promoting health.
  • Understanding of current lifestyle recommendations for health and the effects of wider determinants.
  • Understanding of appropriate response and actions in supporting a variety of lifestyle issues.

If you work in health and/ or social care in Southwark and are interested in the training please see further details here.
